Grow Yourself

December 12, 2017

The meaning of life, to me, is to be continuously growing.  Since infancy, we’ve been growing, in every aspect of life.

The meaning of Growing Yourself, though, can differ from person to person.  No one is starting at the exact same spot and no one has the same destination.  Most of us are just exploring life and some of us decide to grow with purpose, while others hang around, hoping the purpose finds them.

It took me a long time to realize I want to grow with a purpose.  I want to be better.

For many years I was just floating around hoping that life would take me in the direction I needed to go, instead of persisting my life to go the way I wanted it to.

Of course, I realize that you cannot force anything, but, I also realize that if you want to become a better person, if you want to grow your knowledge, craft, etc… you need to persist.

Nothing is just handed to you, nothing.

I’ve always been an outspoken person, often coming across as blunt, harsh and/or bitchy.  I’ve never intended to be mean.  I have the right intentions but my words or actions have definitely come across less than righteous, at times.  I’ve done and said things I am not proud of.  I am sorry for those I have hurt in the process of trying to push.

The thing is, I want better from you.  I think your capable of being better so when you have no intentions of growing, it frustrates me.  Truth be told, this isn’t one sided, I also want better from me.  I want us to work together, to become better people.

Growth is supposed to take you outside of your comfort zone, it’s supposed to turn your world upside down sometimes,  it’s supposed to rattle you to your core and even make you question who you are.

So, thank you to the people who have stuck by my side and even to those who have walked out the door.  Your decisions have affected my life.

Yes, even the ones who have bailed, you’ve set me free.  It’s not easy to grow when you have the same people by your side.  It’s tough, damn near impossible, to find someone who wants to grow in the same direction at the same time as you.  So, thank you.

Thank you to the ones who have stayed by my side and called me on my shit.  I respect you for doing the tough thing and being honest.  Honesty is a hard attribute to find in friends and family, so anyone that has the guts to be honest to my face, thank you.

Follow a road-map for growth, so it can guide you somewhere.  It is through action that you’ll get things done.  Guide your actions with the purpose and planning needed to get through the journey of Growing Yourself.

Learn from your mistakes.  Take 2 steps backward and 3 leaps forward.  Step by step, leap by leap, closer to a better version of you.
