Over the last couple of years I've realized that most of the unhealthy habits we exhibit can be fixed with one simple task, cooking at home. Almost anything you make from scratch at home will be healthier for you than prepackaged or premade stuff you buy at the supermarket or take out joint. I used to be apart of the majority who rarely cooked a meal at home. I tried my best but I didn't have many skills in the kitchen which led to unsatisfactory meals which then led to the take out syndrome. Take out was no longer a treat, it was my everyday. I recognized that there was a problem but I didn't know how to change it. At the time I didn't have a partner that enjoyed cooking and we didn't even enjoy the same types of food. The chore of cooking always fell onto me and I resented every minute of it. I knew I needed to make a change.
This is when I told myself enough was enough. I started to experiment with recipes I found online and after many trials and errors I really started to enjoy spending time in my kitchen. I started to gain skills and confidence and wanted to take it to the next level. This is when I signed up for cooking classes at George Brown College. I decided I was going to work towards getting my certificate in Vegetarian Culinary Arts. This acted as a snowball effect which led to the start of my blog and all of the amazing opportunities thereafter.
Since then, I've gone on to be an everyday meal maker. But - That's not it, I truly enjoy cooking at home and I want others to know that it's not as hard as you think it is. YOU can do it.
I've made a simple info graphic below to help you out with some of the biggest obstacles when you begin to cook at home.
Please also feel free to leave me and questions and comments below, I'd love to help with any other obstacles you may be encountering.
